The best way to get a great phone team is to pay on commission.  You will have two types of people to respond if you start advertising.

  1.  The first group will want money other than commissions….because what if they can’t make a sale, then they still want to be paid.  They feel they are owed money for their time…lol..they want a job!
  2. The second group are those who are so good that they actually prefer commissions because they know what they can generate.  There’s no ceiling and they know they can bring in sales.  They love selling!

Of course, you want to hire the 2nd group!

There is a warning about the 2nd group.  They can be pushy people….and the last thing you want is somebody pushy making calls for you.  When somebody joins your company beause of being “pushed” into it, they won’t last and they will talk badly about you.  You don’t want that.

So you will have to watch them closely and be careful about who you hire.

Running and managing a phone team is time consuming and hard work.

MLM Success – Three Bad Habits That Steal Your Money

How many bad habits do you have?  Seriously, don’t answer that question!   There are some things we just don’t need to know.  But if you are working a home-based MLM business and you are not making the money you thought you should be making, it’s time to do a bad habit checkup.

There are three bad habits that steal your money in your MLM business. 

The first bad habit is proscrastination.  You know or should know the main activity that will make you money in your business.  For most people in the MLM business, the activity that will make them the most money has to do something with “inviting” people.  It may be inviting them to host a party, inviting them to make an appointment for a demonstration,  inviting them to watch a DVD,   inviting them to send a card, or inviting them to taste a product.    Those are just a few that came to mind.  I’m sure there are a host of others. 

There is no reason to go through the psychology of why we procrastinate because the bottom line is we procrastinate basically because we don’t like doing something or we don’t think we do something well; and if we have the option of putting it off, we do. 

Since our main activity is “inviting” others, the assumption is that you procrastinate because you don’t want to be rejected.  Who cares if someone says no, not right now.  Go to someone else.  You are in business to  make money.  There are plenty of people who would love your product and love to join your team.   Your job is to just keep moving and find them.   It’s not personal.  

You want to make the most money possible and the only way you are going to do that is to find the people who want the same thing that you want. 

The second bad habit is not participating in professional development.  I don’t care what business you are in, professional growth is a must.    As a teacher, we were required to participate in continued education and that cost came out of our pockets.  Regardless of what industry you are in, you must keep learning and growing professionally.  I don’t know of an industry that does not require professionals to receive continuous education on the company and its products or services.

MLM success depends on having the right mindset to grow your business.  You are not working for anyone else.  Your entire income depends on your being able to relate, communicate and respond to others.    Those who are enjoying MLM success are those who participate in professional growth daily.   

Are you reading books that others who have been successful in MLM have written? Are you participating in weekly conference calls from your MLM company?  Have you identified your area of weakness and focused on training that will transform your weakness into a strength.  If you don’t know your weakness, just ask yourself what is it you don’t like to do and why you don’t like it and that is probably your weakness.  Then find someone who is the master in your area of weakness and connect with them through seminars, books, or audio or video training.

The third bad habit is blaming others for your failure.  The most empowering aspect of network marketing is that “you are in control.”  You determine what you are going to do?  You determine how much time you are going to spend doing it?  You determine what you are going to do to improve your skills and mindset. 

The ones who get into network marketing as a way to get-rich-quick-doing-nothing are the ones who play the blame game.  No one has the right to play the blame game unless they have absolutely participated in every training activity their company offers and does every single activity their company tells them to do and has done this consistently for  at least two years.

One Perspective on the Termination of School System Employees

In my 30 plus years as an educator, I have seen times of economic downturn.   However, I have never seen a time where that downturn resulted in so many educators, especially teachers, losing their jobs.

Teachers, instructional paraprofessionals, and support staff are essential to our children’s education.  However, no longer can we say that there is job security in education.   

The sadness is that those employees who are losing their jobs have only a short time to find other jobs in an economy where unemployment is the highest it has ever been. 

There is no need to argue or debate why we are in the place we are.  That will get us nowhere at this point.  It is important to look to the future to see what can be done to provide financial security.

The conclusion that I draw from what has happened with our economy is that every single person, regardless of place of employment, should have a second or even a third income stream

We have always known to diversify our investments, but we have never thought about diversifying our income streams.  Diversification in how we make money is now critical and should be something that we all consider.

 What at one time was truth in our generation is no more.  College degrees no longer guarantee you a great income.   Working hard no longer gives you job security.  No matter who you are and no matter what your degree level, if you depend on someone to hire you, you are already in trouble. 

How do you diversify your income stream?  Find a home-based business that you can start working part time while you still have your full-time employment.  Diversify.  Have at least two income streams so when one runs dry, you are not left high and dry. 

There are lots of great home-based businesses that are legitimate and some of them are even fun to work.  Anyone who has drive and commitment can be successful in a home-based business no matter what level of education and no matter what age.

There are only three requirements for success in starting a home-based business.

  1. Do something daily to help your business grow.
  2. Participate daily in personal development  that helps you understand how to build your home-based business quickly and successfully.
  3. Don’t quit.  You stay the course. 

 The awesome thing about having a home-based business is that you can’t be fired and you can’t be laid off

You are the person who determines how much money you are going to earn.  You are no longer at the mercy of your employer.

MLM Success – One Tip That Can Explode Your Business

Network marketing is a great way to put you in control of what you earn and has the potential for those who are serious to make a lot of money. But, the average network marketer is not a serious business owner.

The average network marketer thinks that just because someone else has made a lot of money in network marketing, then by association, they will, too. They want to have a lot of money but they just don’t want to take the necessary action to actually earn the money.

So there is no wonder why many quit within the first year. The quitters claim that they were deceived and that network marketing really doesn’t work.

That is a false claim.

Quitters lose out because they quit. And they quit because they don’t take the necessary time to receive training and then actually practice what they learn in training.

You may say that you attend the training calls, webinars and seminars sponsored by your company. That’s great but is that enough?

Those who do well in network marketing understand the sales strategy. They understand what great salesmen have known for years. They understand the power of asking but more importantly they understand how to ask.

The good news is that anyone can be trained to know the right questions to ask!

This valuable skill of “asking” was not learned overnight. Like any other great skill, it was learned over a period of time through reading, listening, and studying those who had mastered the skill.

Remember you are not in the business of answering questions posed by your prospect about how long have you been in the business and how much money do you make.

You job is to be the one to ask the questions!

Always turn your prospect’s question into a question for your prospect!

1. For instance, your prospect asks, “How long have you been in the business?” Mr. Prospect, the length of time is not the issue. It’s what you do with your time. You said that you wanted to be able to take three or four vacations a year with your family, what changes do you need to make in your life to make that happen?

2. What if your prospect asks, “How much money do you make?”  Mr. Prospect, since you can’t spend my money and you said that you wanted to make $10,000 a month, what changes do you need to make in your life to make that happen?The key is to always turn your prospect’s question back into a question for him. It’s about your prospect and what your prospect needs and wants–it is not about you.          Become the Master Asker with this special offer.

Four Steps to Lead Generation Using a Facebook Fan Page

If you don’t have a Facebook Fan Page you are letting money walk away from you! It is a free revenue stream, but there is a secret to getting it to work for you.

Just having a Fan Page does not make it a great source of additional revenue. The secret is in knowing how to create and manage your Fan Page so that it works for you on autopilot!

There really is a secret to this madness!

Be intentional with creating your Facebook Fan page. Let it build a following over time by making sure that you follow these guidelines.

1. Make it Unique to You! Your Facebook Fan Page must be personally branded. You must stand out from the crowd. Visitors must easily be able to tell who you are and what you are about.

For instance, if you are a success coach, so what? There are millions of them. What makes you unique? Why would I pick you over another success coach?

Take time to think about who you are and what message you want to communicate. What images and words will best communicate that message. Create a tagline that when people see it no matter where they are, they will think about you.

For instance, when you hear or read “Just Do It,” you immediately think of Nike. Spend some time and personally brand yourself so that when someone sees a phrase or an image, they will immediately think of you!

2. Have Connections To Your Other Social Media Outlets. The more you are in front of your fans, the more you are remembered. On your Fan Page, your fans should be able to easily connect to your Twitter and to your LinkedIn pages and any other social media sites that are important to you. Then in return, you should have a connect box back to your Facebook Fan Page from your other social media sites. Make sure your fans can find you wherever you are.

If you have a website, have your Facebook Fan Page button on your website. The more you are out in the world of social media interacting, the more credibility you will have. You want to create buzz about who you are and what you do.

3. Give Away. Without this, there are no real leads! In exchange for your visitor or your fan’s name and email address, give them something of value for free. Once they experience your value, your visitors will become your fans.

For instance, you can do a special report on a “hot” topic in your niche. Another idea is to make a series of videos with each one showcasing a “How to” topic of interest. Also, you could write a “How To” special report.

Don’t make this step complicated. People are looking for great tips to grow their businesses and will gladly give up their name and email address in exchange.

Word of warning: Your content must be of value, helpful and do exactly what you posted in your opt-in box it would do.

4. Initiate Autoresponder. If you haven’t joined an autoresponder system, you are wasting a lot of time. It is like hiring a secretary for less than $20 a month! With an autoresponder, you can set up a series of emails to go out to your leads.  Aweber is the autoresponder that I recommend.

In those emails, continue giving 95% value and 5% take away. The postscript is where you can lead them to your websites to sell them something that they really need to continue to be successful in their business.

Above all, be honest in everything that you!

Network marketing sells dreams.  Is that good or bad?  It’s both.  The good is that there are lots and lots of network marketers who realize their dreams.  The bad is that there are lots and lots of network marketers who never realize anything but being broke.  Why?  What separates those who succeed and those who fail?

You have just signed up with the greatest company in the world and you are ready to build your success dynasty and realize your dreams.  You are so excited because you believe everyone you talk with is going to see the same amazing opportunity as you saw.  Wrong!  You must help your prospects overcome their fear of the unknown and to get them to overcome their fear, you must walk with them safely through the number one enemy of network marketing – the valley of objections.

Get ready to battle the valley of objections.    Before you go to battle, you must be trained.  You must learn everything you can about your enemy.    In order for you to survive and realize your dreams, you must help your prospects understand they can realize their dreams, but you must first have a strategy to walk them safely through the valley of objections!

Training on how to handle objections is in two steps:

  1. Study from the best.  Attend seminars and webinars and read books of those who are successful network marketers.  This is what I call the easy phase so don’t get stuck here.  You can’t be successful until you move to step two.
  2. If you want to learn how to do anything well, practice doing it!   This is the most difficult step  because of two other enemies:  fear and procrastination!

How Did I End Up Here?

How many times have you ended your day and really accomplished nothing that made you any money in your network marketing business?  How many times have you started one thing only to become distracted and start something else–never to complete either one?  How many times have you proscratinated in starting an activity that you knew would make money for you but you just dreaded taking action?  How many times has your day ended and you said I was busy all day but absolutely got nothing done.

That scenario is no different than your getting up one morning and deciding you are going to go somewhere but don’t know where you want to go.  So you get in your car and you just drive until you decide to make a turn.  At the end of the day, you may still be only five miles from home after driving over 300 miles, spending $60 on gas, and $20 on food.  You wasted your day, spent money and got absolutely nothing accomplished.  Why was that?

You had no plan! 

You didn’t know where you wanted to end up at the end of the day–you just knew you wanted to go somewhere.    The saying

“If You Fail To Plan, Then Your Plan Is To Fail”

is true regardless what you are doing.  Plan your trip before you leave.  Know the exact turns you are going to take, where you plan to stop for gas, and when you are going to stop to eat.  Know what time you should reach your destination. 

The same is true in your business.  Plan your day.  If you don’t plan your day, then you will find yourself on the road to nowhere.  You will  get absolutely nothing done and what you get done will not be those activities that can make you money.  If your are working, I am assuming that you want to make money.  I want to make as much money as I can with working as few hours as necessary.  How do I do that?  I plan.

Here is my typical day’s plan:

  • 6:00 get up, drink coffee, exercise, prayer and Bible study
  • 8:00 check emails
  • 8:30 Get on social media sites and participate in my communities by making new connections and commenting.  Spend no more than 20 minutes on each site
  • 9:30 Write articles, make videos, blog
  • 12 noon Lunch
  • 1 p.m.  Post articles and videos
  • 2 p.m. Start discussions on social media sites and comment on posted discusssions
  • 3 p.m.  Personal development and training
  • 6 p.m. Dinner
  • 7 p.m. – 9 p.m  Follow up with contacts from east coast and mid-atlantic
  • 9 p.m – 10 p.m. Follow up with contacts from plains and west coast
  • 10 p.m – Plan my next day
  • 11 p .m. – Nite, nite

Now, does my day always go as planned.  No, but I have a plan.  At the end of the day, you make adjustments.  You may decide that you want to take one day and spend it all on writing articles, blogs, and making videos that you can post over a two or three-day period.   You may want to spend a full day just connecting with people about your primary business.  You may want to spend time building a website.   The great thing about the plan is that you get to make it!  The important thing is to plan and evaluate that plan each day and adjust accordingly.

You schedule can fluctuate day to day.  I suggest you set it that evening for the next day.  Always evaluate where you  might need to spend less time and where you might need to spend more time.  Keep each day indpendent of the other.  Don’t beat yourself up if you get away from your plan.  Get back focused as soon as you realize you have gotten away from it. 

It’s always important to set your day and follow it as closely as you can.  Money-making activities should always take more time than non money-making activities when you are building your network marketing business.

Evaluate a Home-Based Business in Three Easy Steps

Want to earn a little extra money or would you rather earn a lot of extra money?  No doubt we all want to earn a lot of extra money.   Did you know that you can earn as much money as you want to earn when you start your own network marketing business or MLM business.  If you want to earn a little, then you do a little.  If you want to earn a lot, then you do those activities that will make you the most money.  

So, here are some guidelines on what to look  for in a home-based business. 

BEWARE:  Not All Home-Based Businesses Are Created Equal

Step One:  Evaluate the Product 

  1. What problem does the product solve?  Be sure your product can solve a problem.  If your product can solve a problem that virtually everyone has, the more money you can make.
  2. Is it a product that everyone can use?  Be sure you are not limited in who can use your product.  The more people or businesses that can use your product, the more money you can make.
  3. Is the product competitive to store-bought products?  Make certain that your product costs less than a similar  product in the store.  If your product costs less than the similar product you can buy from a store, the more money you are going to make.
  4. Is there any competition for the product in other network marketing companies?  How many other companies out there are looking at the same target niche?  For instance, how many healthy juice companies are trying to sell healthy juices.  The least competition you have, the more money you can make.

Step Two:  Evaluate the Required Costs 

  1. What is the dollar investment that is required to start your home-based business?  Be careful for companies that have no initial investment as those companies may have a very high monthly investment requirement.
  2. What is the monthly dollar investment that is required for you to become a distributor in the company?  You’ve got to understand that this is the amount of money you will lose if you don’t work your business.   You want to be certain that you can recoup this amount very easily.   You’ve got to see how you can recoup this money plus more every single month.

Step Three:  Evaluate the “how to sell” the product?

  1. Are presentations required? If presentations are required, do you feel comfortable and do you have the personality for making presentations?  Do you have the time required to invite and follow-up with those in presentations.  Do you have the money that might be needed to pay for a facility to host a presentation?
  2. Are face to face meetings required?  If face to face meetings are required, then you cannot go past your warm market or your community.  Is your warm market or commuity large enough for you to make a lot of money? 
  3. Is the company in tune with the 21st centrury?   If you can find a company that can be done 100% online, then everyone is your potential customer.  Does your company provide the technology so that the world can be your customer.
  4. Do you have to have product to demonstrate?  If you do, then you are already limited to how much money you can make.    You can only sell the product to those who can attend a demonstration.
  5. Are home parties required?  A lot of home-based businesses require home parties in order to be successful.  There are legitimate home-based businesses that do not require home parties or tasting parties.  
  6. Do you have to bug  your family and friends in order to make any money?  Most people prefer not to bug family and friends.  But more importantly most family and friends would prefer that you not bug them!  If the world can be your prospect, then your family and friends can be set free. 

In summary if you are looking to make extra money, there are three major areas that you need to consider in looking at a home-based business.  When I was looking for a business, here is what was important to me:

  1. I wanted  less than $400 initial  investment.  I didn’t have a lot of money to throw away.
  2. I wanted a product that solved a problem for both individuals and businesses.  I wanted a huge market.
  3. I wanted a fun product.  I’m a fun person and I wanted a product to  match my personality.
  4. I wanted  less than $35 monthly requirement.  I didn’t want to spend more each  month than I was making.
  5. Iwanted a product that I could market 100% online — I wanted my family and friends to continue to love me!
